Balham: How the best’s about to get even better
Balham is frequently named as one of the most attractive places to eat, drink or shop in all of London – further improvements are planned in 2018 to make it even better.
Balham is regularly voted as one of the best places to live in London and boasts numerous restaurants, gastro pubs and boutique shops – it is rapidly becoming the destination of choice for people in search of something a bit different, and we want to make it even more attractive for local people and visitors from further afield alike. Ambitious plans to improve Bedford Hill and connect it to the vibrant Hildreth Street will be announced this year. This council-funded project is just the latest in a number of schemes promoted by Wandsworth
Conservatives to ensure our borough continues to be the best place to live, work and socialise in London. Wandsworth’s Conservative campaigners have also secured a change in planning law that now means it is much harder for developers pushing through a change of use on a pub, bar or restaurant; this should mean that Balham’s diverse night-time economy is protected for years to come and will ensure fewer popular bars and eateries close their doors or ring last orders for a final time, to be converted into other less attractive businesses.
Time to drive electric
With growing concerns around the poor air quality in London caused in large part by polluting engines of older diesel vehicles, Wandsworth Council has ambitious plans to support electric vehicle charging points in all our residential streets. You can find the first new electic vehicle charging points in Balham on Sistovia Road, pictured right, as used by Lucy.
